How this one actually started
I was not trying to build a content funnel.
I was trying to answer a harder question: if I want direct consultancy with CEOs and CTOs, where do those people actually show up in a form I can reach? StartupIndia was the reference surface. Founder-dense. India-shaped. Not pure LinkedIn spray.
First move was list-hunting. Subreddits and websites similar to that. Then the list got too global and too noisy. The real filter landed next:
I want Indian founders, CEOs, CTOs, top management, because initial rapport is easier.
Then Reddit alone was not enough. Solopreneurs, VCs, co-founder seekers. Directories, news sites, matching platforms, city events. Same hunt, more surface types.
So this is not a marketing-funnel essay. It is an access funnel map for India-first GTM: where decision-makers hang, how to tier outreach, and which shortlist to open first by target type.
The real problem: access, not awareness
Most “startup outreach” advice collapses three different jobs into one:
- Get seen (content, brand).
- Get listed (directories, news).
- Get a conversation (book, DM after value, meet in person).
Consultancy lives in job three. The useful map is surfaces where CXOs already gather, plus a sequence that does not open with a sales dump.
The thread kept returning to one operating sequence:
- Book - paid or structured 1:1 calls.
- Engage - free communities, threads, Slack, groups.
- Meet - city chapters, events, offline density.
Book, engage, meet. Cold access, warm community, in-person. Run all three; do not bet everything on one channel.
Tier 1: Book (structured calls)
Use these when you want a calendar slot without waiting for serendipity.
| Surface | Why it matters for consultancy |
|---|---|
| GrowthMentor | Curated founders and executives; bookable 1:1 sessions. |
| Clarity.fm | Expert calls on demand; paid structure, clear intent. |
| Founders Network | Paid peer mentorship; curated intros and advisory-style access. |
These are not “follow and hope.” They are intent-aligned access. Best first path when you need a real conversation this week, not a brand campaign.
Tier 2: Engage (free or low-friction communities)
Join, comment, add signal, then DM with context. Never lead with “Hi, I provide consultancy.”
| Surface | Who you reach | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| The 403 Circle | CTOs, CISOs | Free Slack; infrastructure and security leadership density. |
| CTO Craft | Tech leaders | Peer discussion; advisory-adjacent culture. |
| CTO Forum (ctoforum.org) | Senior tech leaders | Cloud, security, digital transformation. |
| Forbes Tech Council | Senior execs | Invite-only; high value, high bar. |
| Hivebrite / Circle.so / Mighty Networks | Accelerator and VC host communities | Many cohort and India-focused groups live here, not on public Reddit. |
| Startup Grind | Local CEOs, CTOs, mentors | Global network with India metro chapters; also feeds Tier 3. |
Engage protocol (Reddit and Slack both):
- Comment genuinely on a real post.
- Share one useful insight.
- Ask a specific question.
- DM only when there is clear context.
Warmer shape:
Hey, saw your post about scaling your SaaS sales team. I’ve worked on similar consulting workflows for early-stage Indian startups. Happy to share a few thoughts if useful.
Colder shape to avoid:
Hi, I provide consultancy. Are you interested?
Tier 3: Meet (India city density)
Offline and hybrid still win for rapport. City chapters are founder density proxies, not tourism.
Startup Grind India chapters to check: Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata.
Other event and network surfaces:
| Surface | Why |
|---|---|
| TiE (tie.org) | Strong India entrepreneur network; chapters across major metros. |
| Headstart Network (headstart.in) | Early-stage founders, events, mentors, investors. |
| Nasscom 10,000 Startups | Tech startup and SaaS density. |
| Meetup / Eventbrite | Search Bangalore startup, SaaS founders India, VC networking, AI founders India. |
If your consultancy sells better face-to-face, Tier 3 is not optional polish. It is the rapport channel the India filter was aiming at.
Reddit: India filter, then founder vs CTO split
Generic global lists (r/startups, r/Entrepreneur, r/smallbusiness) exist. For easy initial rapport, treat them as secondary.
Founder / CEO leaning
| Subreddit | Who shows up | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| r/StartupIndia | Indian founders, early-stage, aspirants | Primary India startup discussion |
| r/IndianStartups | Builders and operators | Founder networking parallel |
| r/IndiaBusiness | SMEs, consultants, executives | B2B and business discussions |
| r/Bangalore | Startup employees, founders, product/tech | Ecosystem density |
| r/mumbai, r/delhi, r/hyderabad, r/pune, r/chennai | City professionals and builders | Local founder and operator contact |
CTO / tech leadership leaning
| Subreddit | Why it works |
|---|---|
| r/developersIndia | Devs, tech leads, CTO-track; architecture and hiring talk |
| r/Bangalore, r/hyderabad, r/chennai, r/pune | Tech city density; SaaS and IT leadership |
| r/StartupIndia, r/IndianStartups | Founders who also own tech decisions |
Many CTOs never title themselves “CTO” in a post. Hunt the topics instead:
- hiring developers
- architecture decisions
- SaaS products and stacks
- cloud costs
- AI / automation
- product building and MVPs
Those threads are entry points for rapport, not cold titles.
Recommended Reddit start order (India rapport)
- r/StartupIndia
- r/IndianStartups
- r/developersIndia
- r/Bangalore
- r/IndiaBusiness
- r/hyderabad
- r/chennai
- r/mumbai
- r/delhi
- r/pune
Daily habit that compounds: 15-20 minutes of thoughtful comments before any DMs. Familiarity first.
Search queries inside those subs
founder, cofounder, startup, SaaS, B2B, CTO, hiring tech team, MVP, funding, bootstrapped, agency, consulting, looking for advice, scaling, enterprise sales.
Off-Reddit India surfaces (the real expansion)
Once Reddit is only one lane, the map splits by job: find names, match people, track capital, meet offline.
1. Directories and news (name discovery)
| Surface | Best for |
|---|---|
| Startup India Hub (startupindia.gov.in) | DPIIT-recognized startups, founder and company profiles |
| YourStory (yourstory.com) | Founder interviews, CEO stories, early-stage narratives |
| Inc42 (inc42.com) | Funded startups, CEO names, VC activity |
| Entrackr (entrackr.com) | Funding news, founder names, tech startups |
| TheKredible (thekredible.com) | Financials, funding detail, seriousness filter |
Useful YourStory-style search patterns:
site:yourstory.com founder SaaS Indiasite:yourstory.com Indian startup CEOsite:yourstory.com bootstrapped founder India
Recently funded companies often have budget for consulting. News surfaces are lead gen, not reading for entertainment.
2. Co-founders and solopreneurs
| Surface | Best for |
|---|---|
| YC Co-Founder Matching | People actively seeking co-founders; Indian builders included |
| Lunchclub | AI-matched 1:1 calls with founders and operators |
| Indie Hackers | Bootstrapped founders, productized services, solo builders |
| Product Hunt | Makers launching products; connect later on LinkedIn/X |
| MicroConf Connect | Bootstrapped SaaS CEOs and solopreneurs |
| Wellfound (AngelList) | Indian startups by city; founders, CTOs, hiring teams |
| FoundersBeta | Co-founder matching and talent discovery |
| Peerlist (peerlist.io) | Strong Indian tech and founder base |
Wellfound city filters that matter: Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune.
3. Indian capital maps (VCs and angels)
Use these to find portfolio founders (often better consultancy targets than the LP list itself) and to read who just raised.
| Surface | Best for |
|---|---|
| LetsVenture | Indian angels, early-stage founders, syndicates |
| Indian Angel Network | Angels and portfolio companies |
| Mumbai Angels | Angel-backed Indian startups |
| 100X.VC | Early-stage portfolio founders |
| Tracxn | Startup database, funding history (often paid depth) |
| Venture Intelligence | VC and PE deal tracking |
4. LinkedIn (still the strongest India CXO surface)
Search patterns:
- Founder India SaaS
- CEO Bengaluru startup
- CTO Indian startup
- Co-founder looking for consultant
- Stealth startup founder India
- Solopreneur India
- Angel investor India
- DPIIT recognized startup founder
Filters: Location India; cities Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai; company size 1-10, 11-50, 51-200; industries Software, SaaS, Fintech, Edtech, Healthtech, D2C, AI.
Groups (noisy, still useful for visibility): Indian Startups, Startup India, Indian Entrepreneurs, Indian SaaS Founders, city startup groups, India VC / angel groups.
5. Product and SaaS ecosystems (India-specific density)
| Surface | Why |
|---|---|
| SaaSBOOMi (saasboomi.org) | One of the strongest Indian B2B SaaS founder ecosystems |
| GrowthX (growthx.club) | Operators, growth, product, GTM leaders |
| The Product Folks | Product managers and product-led founders |
| X / Twitter | Build-in-public Indian founders; engage before DM |
X search seeds: "building in public" India founder, "Indian SaaS" founder, "looking for cofounder" India, "raised seed round" India, "bootstrapped" "India", "solo founder" "India".

Simple connect template (after you find someone)
Hi [Name], I came across your work on [platform/company]. I noticed you’re building in [industry/space], and I liked your approach to [specific thing].
I work with founders/teams on [your consultancy area]. Not pitching directly - just thought it would be useful to connect because I’m exploring conversations with Indian founders in this space.
Would be happy to exchange notes sometime.
Specificity is the product. Generic “I help startups scale” dies on arrival.
How to run this as a weekly system
Not a one-time list dump. A loop:
- Book: 1-2 structured calls via GrowthMentor / Clarity when you need force-function conversations.
- Engage: daily comments in 2-3 India subs + one Slack/community; weekly presence in SaaSBOOMi / Peerlist / relevant groups.
- Meet: one city event or chapter touchpoint per month when possible.
- Discover: 30 minutes of YourStory / Inc42 / Startup India Hub / Wellfound for fresh names; prioritize recent raises and hiring signals.
- Rapport filter stays on: India-first when early trust matters; expand global only after the local motion works.
The funnel is not top-of-funnel content metrics. It is access density: how many real decision-maker conversations you can create without sounding like spam.
Closing cut
The thread started with “sites like StartupIndia for CEOs and CTOs.” It ended as an India GTM surface map with three outreach tiers and target-type shortlists.
Remember the spine:
- Access funnel, not marketing funnel.
- India first when rapport is the bottleneck.
- Founder surfaces and CTO surfaces are different lists.
- Book, engage, meet - run all three.
- Warm context before the pitch.
Open LinkedIn and one directory today. Comment in r/StartupIndia or r/developersIndia before you DM anyone. Put one city chapter on the calendar. That is the system, not the spreadsheet of 40 logos you never touch.
