1. Prompt spine (human, ordered)

Source is a dense feature-addition pass, not a long argumentative debate. Reconstructable spine from the file’s own sequence of asks and design votes:

#Concise human ask / move
P1Every floating chat needs a tiny role icon (Thinking, Reading, Coding, Research, Idea, Question) so I can glance the desk, not so the model labels itself.
P2Minimap for many bubbles: overview, click, camera flies to target (Figma / Miro energy).
P3Docking: drag and snap into comparison grids when free float is too loose.
P4Session Summary on close: main topic, chat counts, questions, insights, exports; one-click export.
P5Pin-to-Main: promote a floating answer into the main thread with provenance backlink (no copy-paste).
P6Background Agent: minimize a researching bubble, keep working in main, get completion later.
P7Universal Search across the whole session (mentions per bubble), not only inside one chat.
P8Canvas physics: free overlap and soft repel? Support Free Mode and Auto Arrange.
P9Session persistence: restore positions, zoom, collapsed state, viewport exactly (thinking desk, not new empty room).
P10Throw Bubble: drag outward like stretching gum; tear-off spawns a floating chat (gesture teaches the concept).
P11Bubble Parking: flick upward into a dock when the desk is crowded.
P12Bubble Preview on hover (title, prompt count, last active) without opening.
P13Bubble Pinning: keep a reference / todo bubble always visible on the side.
P14Workspace Replay: animate yesterday’s bubble layout back into place (thinking archaeology).
P15Session map sidebar + short thread labels on each panel for 5 to 10 branch control.
P16Bubble Memory: scroll, collapsed answers, cursor, zoom exactly as left.
P17Snapshot, conversation color, bubble-level search, temporary scratch bubble, importance tiers, timer, optional post-hoc relationships.
P18Shared Clipboard: drag an AI answer card from one bubble into another.
P19Architecture: do not rebuild chat plumbing; fork Hugging Face Chat UI or OpenMLC and spend months on the spatial experience.

2. Start state

Initial curiosity / conflict:

  • The floating workspace already exists as a concept. The itch is legibility and lifecycle, not inventing chat from zero.
  • Ten bubbles on a desk become noise unless the human can read roles, find, park, pin, and resume.
  • Strong product instinct: features should teach themselves through gesture (throw, flick, pin, drag) rather than manuals.
  • Anti-clutter memory design is part of the product: scratch bubbles and importance tiers, not infinite permanent archive by default.
  • Quiet constraint at the end: months of energy should go to experience, not reimplementing auth, streaming, markdown, and model pickers.

3. Transitions and impulses

P1 → P2 (icons → minimap)

  • Impulse A: Icons solve “what is this bubble doing?” Minimap solves “where did it go?”
  • Impulse B: Design-tool envy (Figma / Miro) as the right UX family, not messaging apps.
  • Impulse C: Glanceability first; navigation second.

P2 → P3 → P4 (find → arrange → close the day)

  • Impulse A: Sometimes free float fails comparison; docking is the comparison tool.
  • Impulse B: Close must produce a summary artifact, not just vanish the desk.
  • Impulse C: Export as the ritual that makes the session feel finished.

P4 → P5 → P6 (summary → promote → parallel work)

  • Impulse A: Best answers should migrate to main with provenance, not paste soup.
  • Impulse B: Waiting on research is waste; background agents feel like interns beside you.
  • Impulse C: Addictive loop hunt: pin and resume are sticky habits, not nice-to-haves.

P6 → P7 → P8 → P9 (agents → search → physics → persistence)

  • Impulse A: Search the session, or the desk stays a scavenger hunt.
  • Impulse B: Free Mode and Auto Arrange both legitimate; refuse false binary.
  • Impulse C: Strong vote: restore the desk exactly. Thinking space is spatial memory.

P9 → P10 → P11 → P12 → P13 (persist → gestures → parking → preview → pin)

  • Impulse A: Throw Bubble is the teaching gesture for “conversations can float.”
  • Impulse B: Parking and preview keep density high without permanent open windows.
  • Impulse C: Reference pin: documentation bubble always in the peripheral field.

P13 → P14 → P15 → P16 (pin → replay → map → memory)

  • Impulse A: Replay might be the signature: resume thinking, not only reopen files.
  • Impulse B: Session map + labels scale the idea past 5 to 10 panels.
  • Impulse C: Per-bubble memory (scroll/collapse/zoom) is the multi-tab promise kept.

P16 → P17 → P18 (memory → anti-clutter toolkit → cross-bubble drag)

  • Impulse A: Snapshot freezes a great answer moment; color builds subconscious landmarks.
  • Impulse B: Scratch + importance tiers gate what enters permanent export memory.
  • Impulse C: Shared clipboard drag as peak delight interaction across bubbles.

P18 → P19 (delight → build strategy)

  • Impulse A: Director mode: stop inventing greenfield chat clients.
  • Impulse B: Evaluate Chat UI and OpenMLC; keep OpenRouter / self-host path.
  • Impulse C: End hunt: months on spatial experience, not plumbing.

4. Inner state arc

Start: Excited product inventor after the base Bubble Chat desk already feels real; hunting add-ons that make multi-bubble work readable and addictive.

Shift 1: From “more chat features” to “workspace readability” (icons, minimap, docking, colors, labels).

Shift 2: From single-session toys to lifecycle (summary, persistence, parking, preview, replay).

Peak A (Throw Bubble + Pin-to-Main + Shared Clipboard): Gesture-first UX as the product’s teaching language.

Peak B (Workspace Replay + Importance / Scratch): Resume archaeology plus anti-clutter memory design; not every curiosity becomes permanent knowledge.

End hunt: Ship the distinctive spatial experience on top of a forked open-source chat UI; treat chat plumbing as solved substrate.

5. Speech habits visible in this source only

  • Cascading “Another feature / Another one” inventory energy; short sections, not long essays.
  • Punchy claims: “This one is huge,” “would become addictive,” “I’d fight to include,” “signature feature.”
  • Explicit human-first framing: “Not because AI needs it. Because you can glance…”
  • ASCII / boxed mockups for UI (icons list, dock grid, session summary card, search hit list, color dots).
  • Gesture metaphors: chewing gum tear-off, macOS minimize, intern agents, design-tool camera fly-to.
  • Strong design votes mixed with open questions (Free Mode and Auto Arrange; force relationships? no, optional drag-link).
  • Anti-clutter ethics: temporary scratch, disposable importance, export only what matters.
  • Closing pragmatism: fork Chat UI / OpenMLC; spend months on experience not auth/streaming/settings.
  • Companion-series tone: features assume the floating workspace already exists.

Do not import: Gemma 13 superordinate openings, “Wait. Before the map,” binary-is-boring, poker-face, “Alright. Let’s go,” or play-sermon textures from other threads. Opening must not clone Feature Intro or MVP Roadmap Finals if those land first.

6. Write brief for Final (this trajectory only)

  • Mode: Experiential series; companion to Bubble Chat pieces (Feature Intro, MVP Roadmap, Atlas specs).
  • Opening: Grow from legibility after the desk exists: ten bubbles is noise until roles, gestures, parking, and resume exist. Unique to this add-on pass.
  • Body: Group features by job (read the desk, move and park, promote and search, lifecycle and memory, anti-clutter, build strategy). Preserve high-value mockups and interaction rules from source; light framing only.
  • Close: Architecture recommendation as the adult move: experience over greenfield plumbing.
  • Omit: Chat games, private digressions, full dump of every empty code fence, forced play sermon.
  • Prose rule: No em or en dashes in new prose (commas, periods, or spaced hyphen -).
  • Wikilinks: Constitution, Master Index, this Index.
