1. Prompt spine (human, ordered)

The download is one long design reply that keeps answering Nitish’s Atlas / bubble-chat moves. Human beats are reconstructed from what the model quotes, loves, or corrects (not invented from other threads).

  1. P1 - Floating multi-chat desk, not one tree. Showed (or re-showed) free-floating chats you drag, resize, close, and rearrange. No forced parent/child. The prior frame had collapsed this into “just branching.”

  2. P2 - Session as the real container. Named a thinking session (e.g. Morning Research) that owns several chats and exports as a folder pack (S1.md … Session.json, metadata.json), stronger than generic folders.

  3. P3 - ADHD interrupt-spawn. Mid-chat “oh wait…” without abandoning Chat A: need a second bubble beside the first, focus flip, keep the main thread alive.

  4. P4 - Primary in the center + session end ritual. Main discussion stays central; closing Main should be able to close the whole session with Save / Compress / Export choices (work session, not tab cleanup).

  5. P5 - Make the desk feel fun. Window management should feel closer to index cards on a desk than OS chrome: flick, snap, spring, no lag.

  6. P6 - Pre-spec richness questions (implicit gate). Before a technical specification: multi-model per bubble, shared vs fresh context, cross-chat drag-quote, live compression side panel, universal command palette.

2. Start state

Product-design heat, not a research paper itch. Nitish is inventing how Atlas should feel when thinking is multi-threaded, interrupt-driven, and spatial. Early mental model leaned structured branching (logical flow, relationships). A second pattern keeps asserting itself: relationship-free floating exploration. The conflict at the door is one system vs two modes. Under that sits a sharper claim: most AI clients are messaging apps; this wants a thinking workspace where chats are tools you arrange in space.

3. Transitions (impulses)

P1 → Mode split lands

  • Frame break accepted: “I thought one branching system” → “two completely different modes of thinking” is the hinge of the whole file.
  • Content yanked: Figma meets ChatGPT, drag/resize/close, no hierarchy, just thinking.
  • Director impulse: keep both deliberately; name them Conversation Mode and Workspace Mode; switch with one click, do not collapse into one tree.

P1/P2 → Session over folders

  • Convinced: Session is a stronger unit than folders; export layout is clean and narrative-friendly.
  • Internal itch: S1/S2 labels are sterile; want glanceable meaning without hand-naming everything.
  • Content kept: auto-title from first prompt visually; UUIDs stay internal.

P2 → temporary + spawn ergonomics

  • Guilt/clutter itch: tiny questions should die with ⌘ + W; no permanent archive tax.
  • Speed itch: ⌘ + N Quick Spawn, cursor already in the box, no menu theater.
  • ADHD content yanked hard: ⌥ + Enter spawn-beside-and-focus feels “magical” because it matches real interrupt cognition.

P3/P4 → pin, close, recover, promote

  • Protect-the-main: pin important bubbles so they never close by accident.
  • Session as ritual: close Primary → optional close entire session with Save / Compress / Export; floating windows vanish together.
  • Reject rigid geometry (partial): “Primary stays center” becomes optional; any bubble can Promote to Primary.
  • Recovery as product, not nicety: VS Code-style resume, same sizes/zoom/scroll; Session Timeline as narrative of spawn/return/close events (story of the day, not just state restore).

P5 → polymorphic panels + physics

  • Expand beyond chat: floating notes (zero tokens), browser, PDF, markdown, whiteboard, scratchpad inside one Atlas surface.
  • Play as differentiator: spring animation, magnetic snap, 60 FPS, flick-to-side; desk cards, not heavyweight windows.
  • Peak conviction: this is no longer a feature list; it is an interaction model.

P5 → P6 open questions

  • Spec hunger, not feature trim: multi-model comparison, fresh context default with inject, drag-quote as signature interaction, live compression panel (questions / themes / decisions / open loops), ⌘ + K universal palette.
  • Hunting at end: freeze the distinctive claim before engineering: floating workspace + session model vs messaging-app AI clients.

4. Inner state arc

StageState
StartBranching-first; floating multi-chat still half-collapsed into “one system”
After mode splitRelief + energy: two purposes, two modes; keep both
Session + titles + temp/spawnDesk ergonomics click: session unit, auto-titles, guilt-free discard, interrupt spawn
Pin / close / recover / promote / timelineSession becomes a story and a recoverable place, not a pile of windows
Notes / browser / physicsPeak: polymorphic thinking objects + playful motion as product soul
End huntPre-spec questions; protect distinctiveness: thinking workspace, not chat clone

5. Speech habits visible in this source only

  • Short purpose quotes as design anchors: “I don’t want to lose the logical flow.” / “I’m exploring. Don’t force relationships.”
  • ASCII sketches of trees, floating rectangles, export trees, timeline strips, and dialog checklists (spec language as diagrams).
  • Feature beats introduced as “I would…”, “One feature I’d definitely add”, “Another one”, “I LOVE this / your idea.”
  • Keyboard-first product taste: ⌘ + W, ⌘ + N, ⌥ + Enter, ⌘ + K named as the interface, not afterthoughts.
  • ADHD-native interrupt language: “Oh wait…”, “Instead of leaving…”, “That would feel magical.”
  • Soft corrections without killing the idea: Primary center → optional Promote to Primary.
  • Closing thesis in plain contrast: messaging apps vs thinking workspace; conversations as spatial tools.
  • Open questions framed as enrichment before tech spec, not as scope cuts.
  • No long personal digression in this file; almost pure product design conversation.
