I do not want more words. I want one map I can hold.
A lot of vocabulary lists are furniture catalogs. Chair, table, lamp, next page. You finish the list and still cannot walk into a messy room and see the system.
What I wanted was different: a small set of high-leverage terms, grouped so one mental glance rebuilds the field. Structure. Meaning shifts. Stress response. Foresight. Enough density to be useful in a real conversation, sparse enough to snapshot.
That is the job of this sheet. Not “master linguistics.” Not “sound smart in meetings.” Something closer to a cognitive camera click: take the map once, then keep it nearby when systems talk gets foggy.
The core bet is simple. Some words do not only label. They trigger pattern recognition. Superordinate terms especially. Umbrella handles that free working memory so you can compare domains instead of drowning in details.
Below is the map. Theories first, then four action clusters. Keep the one-line definitions. Use them as levers.
Why language can act like a cognitive map
Before the clusters, five ideas that justify treating vocabulary as infrastructure rather than decoration.
Embodied cognition. Mental concepts translated into physical feelings and actions. The map is not only abstract. Good terms often land as felt structure: loops, weight, snap, balance.
Superordinate terms. High-level words that trigger deep pattern recognition. These are the compression keys. One handle, many cases. Tag them as verbal levers when you study: the point is transfer across domains, not trivia.
Schema theory. Mental frameworks used to organize and interpret information. New input lands on existing frames. Dense terms work when they update or activate a schema, not when they float as isolated facts.
Semantic networks. Webs of interconnected concepts in memory. Clusters beat alphabetical lists because edges matter. Emergence sits near feedback loops. Antifragility sits near resilience and pivot. The network is the map.
Metacognition. Thinking about thinking: awareness of your own cognitive processes. This lexicon is also a debugging kit. If you can name the move (reframing, salience, entropy), you can catch yourself mid-pattern instead of only after the fact.
If those five are the substrate, the rest of the sheet is practice: four jobs language can do under load.
Cluster 1: Structural and systemic organizers
Use these when you need to see the machine, not the anecdote.

How to pull them in conversation. Ask: what is interacting with what? What property only appears at the whole level? Where does output re-enter as input? Which rule of thumb is being used as if it were law? What value is flowing, and where is it stored?
Structure first. Later clusters need a stage.
Cluster 2: Narrative and divergent transforms
Use these when the problem is meaning, attention, or stuck framing.

These terms turn “I feel stuck” into a diagnosable move: change the frame, change what is salient, or approach from the side.
Cluster 3: Adaptation and resilience
Use these when the system is under stress and you need precision about recovery versus growth.

How to pull them. Bounce-back is not the same as get-stronger-from-chaos. Stability is not the same as strategic turn. Interdependence can be load-sharing or trap. Name the property you actually need before you copy a slogan.
This cluster is especially useful when people collapse three different behaviors into the single word “resilient.”
Cluster 4: Anticipatory and collaborative action
Use these when the conversation is about futures, backups, joint force, and decay.

How to pull them. Are we designing for one future or a fan of futures? Is duplication waste or insurance? Is “teamwork” actually producing more than the sum, or only adding coordination cost? What force is actively moving the system? What will rot if we leave it closed and unmaintained?
Foresight language keeps the map from becoming a museum of past structure.
How to use the map without turning it into homework
- Snapshot, then park. One clean read. Hold the four cluster names. Trust recognition more than perfect recall.
- Re-open under load. Next systems talk, strategy mess, or self-debug: name the cluster first, then the term.
- Prefer transfer over collection. Entropy in a codebase, a habit, and a team calendar should feel like the same lever in three costumes.
- Keep definitions pocket-sized. If a term needs a page, it is no longer a handle for conversation. Expand later in a deeper note if needed.
- Pair with superordinates. When a conversation floods with details, reach for the umbrella word that frees a slot in working memory.
This is not a syllabus. It is a dense, high-leverage cognitive map. The progress metric is recognition speed when the room is foggy, not how many definitions you can recite alone at a desk.
Closing hold
Four jobs for language:
- Organize the structure (system, loops, paradigm, flows).
- Transform the story (reframe, dissonance, salience, lateral move).
- Adapt under stress (resilience, antifragility, pivot, homeostasis).
- Anticipate with others (scenarios, redundancy, synergy, entropy).
